Why Spraying Stayntech® Masonry Stain is Better Than Other Application Methods

Why Spraying Stayntech® Masonry Stain is Better Than Other Application Methods

Stayntech Staff |

The application method used when applying Stayntech® masonry stains to brick, block, or mortar can influence the final result. Stayntech® can be applied by a brush, roller, or sprayer but spraying the stain is the preferred method for achieving the most consistent, natural-looking finish. While brushing and rolling can be appropriate in certain situations, spraying Stayntech® offers advantages over other techniques including better control of the opacity of the stain and better absorption into the masonry pores.

Uniform coverage

One of the biggest advantages of spraying Stayntech® is the ability to achieve more uniform coverage across the masonry surface. Spraying can avoid common appearance inconsistencies associated with a manual application including roller marks, brush marks, heavy spots, and areas where the original masonry color shows through the stain more than intended.

Better coverage over textured masonry

Masonry is rarely a perfectly smooth surface. Brick, block, and stone can have deep pores, irregular textures, recessed areas, and varying levels of absorption. Using a sprayer allows Stayntech® to reach more of those areas evenly and efficiently. A sprayer is able to distribute the stain across uneven and heavily textured surfaces without having to force a brush or roller into every groove or depression. Brushing or rolling can be tedious and challenging when trying to apply the stain to deep mortar joints, rough surfaces, corners and irregular masonry.

More natural-looking finish

Stayntech® is designed to soak into the surface of masonry rather than simply sitting on top of it like traditional paint. Brick, block, and mortar all have unique textures, pores, and variations that give masonry its distinctive appearance. Spraying the stain in lieu of brushing or rolling is the best method for achieving uniform color and preserving the natural surface details of masonry.

Faster application on larger projects

Spraying Stayntech® is considerably more efficient when staining larger brick, block and mortar surfaces. Brushing requires the applicator to physically work the stain onto the masonry surface section by section. Rolling is generally faster however the project will become much more labor intensive. A sprayer can cover a larger area much more quickly, making it the ideal choice for staining larger homes and commercial properties.

Control the opacity (light, even layers to achieve desired opacity

One of the biggest advantages of Stayntech masonry stain has over other coatings is the ability to transform the color of brick, block, and mortar without making the surface look painted. A big part of achieving a natural and professional-looking appearance comes down to controlling the opacity during application. When Stayntech® is sprayed, the applicator has control over how much of the original masonry color and variations remain visible.

Get better results by spraying Stayntech®

Spraying Stayntech® provides the coverage, appearance, efficiency, and opacity control needed to work with the natural variations of masonry. While it can be brushed or rolled, spraying is the preferred method for applying Stayntech®. When Stayntech® is paired with the recommended application method and proper technique, you can transform the appearance of masonry without compromising the unique characteristics of brick, block, and stone.
